Does Your Family Smore?

My family and I spent New Year's Eve sitting around the bonfire, talking and making Smores!

The marshmallows must be roasted to perfection - golden brown on one side - with bits of burned black carcinogens on the end and a few ashes clinging to the still cold, white side which you just cannot get close enough to the embers.

With luck, you'll get the whole marshmallow when you pull it off the stick, but most often the outside comes off and you have to either stick the gooey soft centre still on the stick, into your mouth - or end up with sticky black fingers. Whichever way it comes out, there's nothing more fun for a family than to enjoy a marshamallow roast around the bonfire.

To make Smores we put a piece of a chocolate bar on a graham wafer then top with a sticky roasted marshmallow. It doesn't matter if the chocolate melts or if you even bother to top it with another wafer - you'll want smore.

Aw man. I'm on a sugar free diet and all I can think about is smores now. Droool. Such a great BC favourite.

Smores is the Girl Scout official food, but I have a lot of happy memories of making them with my family. Thanks for the memory.

Sounds like great fun. I have never actually had a true smore like you describe here. Only candy bars and such that are a cheap and convenient imitation. I think I'm missing out.

Hmmmmm I haven't had a roasted marshmallow in years!! I even remember toasting them over our gas stove burners when I was little. I got into a lot of trouble for doing that, but it was fun!

Enjoying reading everyone's posts from our BLOG VILLAGE Carnival.

Yummmm!!! Here's how we do it in Southern Cal. First you have to fight for the fire pit on the overcrowded beach. Make a fire so big your marshmallows will burn 2 feet away from the fire and then you have to try to get it in between the Hershey bars and sand and let the gooey stuff get in your hair. Or something like that.

This was an interesting read. Wasn't sure what you meant by smores as we don't have those in England. But I love Marshmallows. I bet they're delicious, if a little sweet. I found your post at Blog Village Carnival. Nice blog.

I love roasted marshmallows...they have to be crispy black on the outside and soft and gooey inside!

Isn't it funny how everyone has a personal preference when it comes to s'mores?
